Comment PDF
Comment PDF files with notes that stay in the file
Annotate a PDF and each comment is saved as a standard PDF sticky note: a note icon about 20 points square at the spot you clicked, with a pop-up that opens to show your text. Because it is a regular PDF comment, other PDF readers that show comments display it too.
Sticky-note comments the file already has are loaded when you open it, so you can read, edit or delete them alongside your own.

Click an existing note to reopen it as Edit Comment and change what it says.

Delete one or all
Delete removes the note you have open. Clear All empties every page once you confirm.

How it works
How your comments are written into the file
When you click Download, the tool starts again from your original file. It takes out the sticky notes and their pop-ups, then writes your current list back in, one note per comment, so every edit and deletion you made is carried into the file.
Nothing on the pages themselves changes. The notes sit on top of the page, and the text, images, links, form fields and any other markup below them stay exactly as they were. Notes are tagged purple and start closed, so the page stays readable until someone clicks one.
The commented copy keeps your file's name, with spaces and special characters turned into underscores and a short site suffix added at the end.

Every comment in the downloaded file, including the ones it already had, lists Comment (loopdf.com) as its author, with the date and time you downloaded it. There is no setting for your own name.
Yes. Press Enter for a new line and the note keeps your line breaks. Enter together with Ctrl, Cmd or Shift saves the comment instead.
Not by dragging it. Delete the note, then click the new spot and add it there again. When you reopen a note its text is already selected, so you can copy it before deleting and paste it into the new one.
No. Comment PDF adds sticky-note comments only; it has no highlighter or text markup. To point at a passage, place a note right beside it and quote the words in the comment.
Yes. A note is pinned to a position on the page, not to a word, so a scanned page takes comments like any other. There is no need to run OCR first.
Not while the password is on it, because the file can't be opened here. Remove it first with Remove Password, add your comments, then lock the file again with Protect PDF if you need to.
Usually not. The notes are not marked for printing, so most PDF readers leave them off the paper and print the page as it is. If you need them on paper, print the comment list from your PDF reader, or write on the page itself with Edit PDF.
No. Delete and Clear All both ask you to confirm first, and there is no undo afterwards. If you clear notes by mistake before downloading, open the original file again to get back the comments it came with.
