Remove the password from a PDF you're allowed to open
Typing the same password every time you open your own file gets old. Enter it once here and you download a copy that opens without it, on any device and in any PDF app.
It is meant for files you are entitled to open: your own documents, or ones whose password you were given. A PDF can carry two passwords, one to open it and an owner password that controls printing and copying, and either one is enough to unlock a PDF here. The tool works only with the password you type and never tries to guess or crack one.
What happens to the unlocked copy
The file is opened in your browser with the password you type. Each page is then drawn at 72 dpi, saved as a JPEG image and placed on a page of the same size in a new PDF, which is saved with no encryption at all.
That is why the copy looks like the original but behaves like a scan: its words are part of the picture. Scanned PDFs lose the least, since their pages were pictures already. If you need them as text again, OCR PDF can read them back out.

No. Without the right password the file stays locked. Ask the person who sent it, or look where you stored the password when you set it.
Type its owner password, the one used to set those limits. The copy you download has no restrictions at all.
PDF passwords are case-sensitive, so check Caps Lock and look-alike characters such as O and 0; the eye button in the dialog shows what you typed. Spaces at the very start or end are dropped, so a password that begins or ends with one can't be entered here.
Yes, if they share a password: select them together and type it once. The unlocked files come back in a ZIP named unlocked-pdfs with the number of files, and any file that needs a different password is listed so you can run it again on its own.
No. The protected file on your device stays exactly as it was, and the unlocked version is a separate download named after it, with spaces and special characters turned into underscores. Keep the original if you may need the protected version again.
It prints, but small type and thin lines can look soft on paper. If crisp output matters, print from the protected original after typing its password in your PDF app.
Not with this tool: the unlocked copy is always made of page images. If you still have the unprotected file the PDF came from, that is the better copy to work with.
You can add to it in Edit PDF, but the existing words are part of each page image and can't be changed as text. To change the wording itself, you need the document the PDF was made from.
